About me
Eskil Kauppi
Born in Stockholm, Eskil Kauppi is recognized as one of Sweden’s most exciting young composers. He has written for ensembles such as Helsingborg Symphony Orchestra, The Swedish Wind Ensemble and members of The Swedish Radio Orchestra. Eskil is also greatly in demand for commissions of chamber music, having written for Astrid Bjelland at The Tampere Flute Festival prize winner’s concert as well as for established saxophonist Theo Hillborg, bassoonist Henrik Blixt and clarinetist Mats Wallin of The Swedish Radio Orchestra.
Premieres of his larger orchestral works have taken place in halls such as Helsingborg Concert Hall and Kungasalen in Stockholm. The chamber works are being played in many different churches and smaller halls in Sweden. He is familiar with arranging for big band, string orchestra and wind orchestra. Eskil’s studies in jazz and classical piano at both The Royal College of Music in Stockholm and earlier at Lilla Akademien is very important to his writing. Transcribing, creating own exercises and bringing them through all modes and keys is incredibly important to him for memorizing material. It has changed his perception of music and given him a much wider range of tools to use in his writing. Furthermore, conducting ensembles such as KTH Academic Orchestra have deepened understanding of his craft.
Additionally, he is recipient of many awards, among those a generous scholarship from Anna Whitlock Memory Fund. Eskil has studied composition at The Royal College of Music in Stockholm and is having close contact with professors from The Royal College of Music in London and Malmö Academy of Music. The most important thing for Eskil when working is always the collaborative part and the people involved.
